In large corporations, the CIO of the company sets the technical
strategies for the company. They will work with
the other business management teams to set the roadmap for these
strategies to meet the company needs. With as much
change that is taking place with technology and the dependence that
businesses have on this technology, it would make sense for all
companies to have a CIO on staff. For smaller businesses, it's
not feasible or appropriate to have a dedicated resource for this.
In fact, it would be overkill and a waste. However, it's still
important this role be filled.
With BUSIMTech we supply this CIO in the manner of a VCIO or virtual
CIO. This VCIO is an experienced IT professional -
ideally with an in-depth understanding of business strategy and
technology, who serves as a part-time 'chief information officer' of
a small or medium-sized business that otherwise could not afford or
would not need a full time executive to hold the position.
This VCIO is hired as a consultant (i.e. an expert retained on
contract), but could serves as a member of a company's executive
management team. The objective of a VCIO is to align the
company's information technology strategy and spending with the
overall business objectives of the company. The VCIO can
bring extraordinary value to smaller organizations. The ability to
get top-notch talent working toward your business's long-term future
at a fraction of the cost of a regular CIO can yield an impressive
return-on-investment. Additionally, having an executive on your team
that works with a portfolio of clients gives you access to more
experience than one organization can provide. A VCIO
would work with the business management team to understand the
business and future so they can anticipate ways to support the
organization. Their sole purpose is not simply to reduce
information technology costs. A VCIO will provide strategic leverage
for their clients by using technology to increase their capacity and
solve business problems.
